Just My Opinion

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Jason Miller. I am a 34 year-old physician, father of one, Porsche enthusiast, 2 year KyPCA member, and newly elected KyPCA board representative. Secondly, to all 35 attendees of the “Holiday Hangover” party, thank you. I can honestly say I got my $15 worth of food, drink, and friendship.

Now, to the purpose of this commentary, I am sad to say that over the last few months the KyPCA Club has become a poor excuse for a high school Debate Team or worse the Accounting Club. Let’s all remember the club is a non-profit organization. As such, we do not set out to earn money and build a bankroll. Any money the club makes should be spent on its active membership.

Recently, some of our “seasoned” members have complained that the club should not buy dinner or a round of drinks at our monthly club meetings. They cite reasons such as liability and fairness. Yes, if I have one too many drinks on the club’s dime and have an accident, I could hold the club accountable. For that matter I could also hold the restaurant that sold the alcohol accountable. But, one drink, where is the harm?

On the subject of fairness, is not each and every club meeting and event open to every member? The answer is YES. In my past two years as an active member, I can tell you, I see the same 20-30 people at every club meeting and event with a few random members here and there. Obviously, those of you in Owensboro, Bowling Green, Paducah, Lexington, etc. cannot make every meeting. A few of you do attend regularly, however. My question is this, are you upset that I may get a free $8 Mexican dinner?

We are missing the big picture. IT’S A CAR CLUB. Ask yourself, why did I join KyPCA? You finally bought your first Porsche and it seemed like the thing to do. Maybe you like receiving the Pacesetter or Pano. Personally, I joined to meet other Porsche enthusiasts, to learn more about the cars, and most importantly to drive my badass car with other badass cars.

As a club, we have great events to showcase our cars. We have 2 DE’s, a spring and fall Huber’s trip, we participate in both the Louisville and Lexington Concourse, the Tennessee Tubs May event, Porsche to Oxford, etc. If the club is not representing you as a member I challenge you to get involved and make it happen. To the active members, I challenge you to make the club more inviting to new members – if that means buying them a cheap Mexican dinner now and then to keep them coming back so be it.

The views expressed here are simply my opinion. If I offended anyone, IT’S A CAR CLUB!
