Ken's Ramblings
Ken's Ramblings - June 2009
Last weekend (16 May) several brave souls made the trip to Brush Creek Farm for the annual Tennessee Tubs BBQ. I say 'brave' because the weather was threatening rain and some 'wusses' didn't want to get wet. Anyway we made it down in spitting rain and when we arrived it was clear and very nice. Several 356's and many other Porsches were in attendance.
The usual folks were in attendance and it was great to catch up on what's happening since the last time I visited with them at the BBQ. The lunch was again great and Mike Spirito (from Lexington) and I got lucky. The lady in line ahead of Mike declined the BBQ (she didn't eat meat) and Mike asked the server to give me and him her share! Next time I am in a chow line I will try to follow a vegetarian. Their loss. The rain held off until after lunch and the awards presentations. We hadn't been on the road but a short time when the skies opened up and we drove through a frog strangler all the way back past Nashville.
Now getting ready to attend the Stoddard Swap meet 12-13 June. It is a good event and almost like a homecoming for the faithful. I have had the same space for the past 20+ years and will again be on the corner of the warehouse. We leave Louisville on Friday morning and arrive in Willoughby, OH, late afternoon - just in time to freshen up and make it to the literature meet on Friday night. Saturday morning it's up early, a quick stop at McDonalds for breakfast and coffee and on to Stoddard. It ends mid- afternoon and we usually get back in Louisville about 9 in the evening.
Also working on a couple of 356 motors. Still gathering parts for the '51 motor (the early motors are rare and the parts a bit difficult to find, even for me).
I am enjoying watching the Washington circus. Madam Princess is imploding… the VP can't keep his mouth shut… the White House spokesman is great at not answering questions and fixing blame on the previous administration… Acorn should be under investigation, but won't be… the 'One' is above questioning. I remember what George Santayana said 'those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it'. I just hope the past we repeat isn't from the mid '30's.
Note the similarity between the Obama logo used during the election (the round redwhite and blue logo) and the Pepsi Cola logo. Smart move. The 'Pepsi generation' recognizes the logo and associates it with youth, vigor, etc. I am now a confirmed Coca-Cola drinker....
Finally, We are in the market for a Plasma Cutter. Looking for a good used one or a 'deal' on a new one. Must be capable of cutting 1/4" steel. All leads appreciated...
