Ken's Ramblings - March 2011

Thankfully the weather is warming and my cabin fever is slowly getting healed. The housecleaning is coming along slowly. This week a truck picked up another shipment of 356 motor cores to Ca. There were two 1956 era complete cores that are very restorable. Still have 356 and 912 motors to convert to cash. I have a very low mileage 912 motor that is ready to install.
Recently I was in the hospital for a brief overnight. My grandson came to see me and he ran into the room first and told me to make a noise like a frog when Grandmother gets here. I asked why and he told me that she said that 'when I croaked they were all going to Disneyworld'. (its a joke)

When you buy a new couch they always give armrest covers in the same material. Wives insist on them always being in place. Then several years later when the couch is worn out and ready for the curb, the arm rests under the protectors, are still perfect.
More TV deals, the commemorative '9/11' coin. Key words are 'gold clad' (a very thin layer) 'non monetary' (worthless).
Last month I mentioned a lady car dealership spokes-lady and suggested 'bobblehead'. This months nominee is a squeaky voice female that, to me, is irritating.

In my media watch, I see full page ads in the CJ for out of town buyers looking for gold, silver, coins and especially military souvenirs....Please don't let a family member sell the mementos of a relative that served. The price these folks pay is way under the true value and it is impossible to put a value on a item that was brought back by a family member . I see what they are offering for some items and it is just short of criminal. Its a legimate business and like pickers or pawn stars, they buy low and sell high. Later this month there is a military show at the KFEC sponsored by the Ohio Valley Military Assn. If you or a relative is interested in selling family heirlooms, take the item(s) to the show. There will be several buyers there and you can shop for the best deal or at least learn the market value for future reference. Some German daggers and Japanese Heirloom swords are worth a fortune. In the words of Sgt Esterhaus (Hill Street Blues) 'lets be careful out there.. '

I have an extensive Lionel train collection and am considering selling some. I prepared a detailed list and offered the list to a dealer. I know what I paid for most items and I also know the value has not gone down. The response I received was basically an insult. .20 on the dollar is not going to happen. Yes they do need to make a profit but... I will sell to private parties for personal use at a fair price. Anybody interested?

Interesting things are happening in KyPCA....One thing I have noted is the similarity of one action under consideration, to Pelosi's comment 'we need to pass this bill so we can see what's in it'....
I would like to hear from folks that use the present KyPCA Yahoo system. With it you get automatic notifications of meetings and events and the opportunity to post and receive info that may be of interest to all . You only need to sign on and they come to you without any effort on your part. It is an excellent supplement to the Website.

I want to remind you that you can opt out of receiving a paper Pacesetter. (save a tree, make a dog happy) The Pacesetter is also on the website and if you prefer the e version, just contact me at e-mail below or phone (502-594-1580) and I will delete you from the USPS mailing list. Later if you change your mind I can add you back on very easily.
Elsewhere in this PaceSetter is information about the website and how to use it. Now for you folks that do not have a computer, you are 's' out of luck. There are about 20 members that I do not have an e-mail address. Maybe they didn't want their address published, maybe their e-mail is for business only or maybe they just don't want e-mail. As mentioned, no computer, nothing from us except a paper Pacesetter.

My feelings is that this is a car club and should benefit all equally. If we buy dinners for meeting attendees, then we should buy a dinner gift card for each and every member that cannot attend the meetings.... That idea should get some folks 'knickers in a twist' :-)
